Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we hear from our customers

Common Questions

Keystash officially supports the following Operating Systems:
  • Debian 9, 10, 11 & 12
  • Ubuntu 18, 20, 21, 22 & 23
  • RHEL 7, 8 & 9 (CentOS, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Oracle Linux etc)
  • Fedora & Fedora Server 34+

Technically Keystash will work with any Linux or BDS system that supports Authorised Keys file in the home directory and a "sudoers" folder.

Keystash is officially compatible with two very common processor architectures - AMD64 (aka x86_64) and ARM64 (aka AArch64).

The Keystash server agent copies SSH Keys to the local file system on your servers so that users can always login irrespective of whether you server can still communicate with Keystash in the cloud.
Yes. When creating a User simply enable expiration and set the date and time for when the account will expire. This allows you to create accounts for contractors or even regular users who need one time access to a particular system.
Yes, the Keystash agent will need to be installed on all servers that you want to manage. But don't worry, there are no software dependencies needed to run the agent, just an SSH Server that users authorised key files in the users home directories.
Yes, the Keystash agent will only syncronise User accounts and SSH Keys from Keystash to the server. It will not stop you from logging in with a password unless you have disabled password authentication or have enabled Two Factor authentication. We suggest that you disable password based logins on your server for increased security.
Keystash will only make changes to your SSH Server and PAM configuration if you enabled Two Factor Authentication or disable SSH Password Authentication.
For paid accounts, Keystash synchronises changes every 60 seconds across all of your servers. Free accounts will synchronise every 5 minutes.
Keystash takes the security of our customers infrastructure very seriously. While we don't store any customer private keys in our systems we still maintain a high standard of security practices across our organisation. Please see our Security page for more detail.

Billing Questions

You can purchase Keystash with any major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX).
Yes. We use Stripe as our payment processor and we do not store any Credit Card details ourselves. We also send all credit card information over a secure sockets layer (SSL).
No. Keystash does not charge sales tax. You will need to report this as you normally would according to your country tax guidelines.
Yes. Your Keystash account recurs automatically unless it is cancelled before the next recurring billing date listed on your account. If you do not want your account to renew automatically, you must cancel before the renewal date.
Yes. Your Keystash account can be upgraded at any time. All of your Users and SSH Keys will remain in your account. Your bill at the end of the month will be based on the new account prices for the month.
Each Keystash account package has an included amount of hosts and users per month. You are allowed to go over your included hosts and your account will be billed for each host at the "Additional Hosts" rate for the month. User accounts are not billed for. If you would like to have more user accounts in your package then you need to upgrade to the package that accommodates the amount of users your require.
At the current moment hosts are billed on a monthly basis. Once a host is registered it will be billed for in that month. If Keystash does not see connections from a host for an entire month then the host will not count or be billed for. In future we may provide for hosts charged on an hourly basis.
